URBAN
PULSE

A five-minute city symphony shot over four dawns in downtown Los Angeles — no dialogue, no actors, just the rhythm of a metropolis waking up.

[ Overview ]

THE CITY
AS A
DRUMMER

The brief was one line: make the city feel alive. We answered with a structure borrowed from music — an overture of empty streets, a percussive rush-hour crescendo, and a quiet coda on a rooftop at dusk.

Everything was shot on location with a two-person crew. No permits for closures, no staged crowds: the film's honesty comes from patience — returning to the same corners until the light and the life lined up.

HOW IT WAS SHOT

  1. Four dawns

We shot the empty-city passages at first light, when delivery trucks outnumber people and the streets belong to the film.

  2. Locked-off rhythm

Intersections were filmed from fixed positions so the edit could cut on motion — buses, signals and footsteps become percussion.

  3. Sound from the street

Every sound in the mix was recorded on those same corners: shutters, brakes, crosswalk beeps, a saxophonist on 5th.

[ Deliverables ]

  • 5-minute festival master — 4K, 5.1 and stereo mixes.
  • 60-second cutdown — for the council's transit-screen campaign.
  • Stills series — thirty graded frames for print and press.

[ Outcome ]

The film opened the council's summer program to a full house, and the transit cutdown ran across downtown screens for a season. It remains the calling card we show when a client asks what patient camerawork looks like.
